Laser Cut LED Candle Cube Instructions

Web Browser

  • Find shape
    • Try adding “silhouette” to your search
  • The images to the right are examples of things you could use
    • The one on the left would end up as a heart because there is nothing connecting the white space on the inside to the outside
    • The one in the middle would end up as a butterfly shaped hole
    • The one on the right would be multiple parts with lines left in the wood between them (the white space)
  • Right click on image
  • Click copy image

Illustrator

  • Open Adobe Illustrator
  • File>Open>LED Candle Cube
  • Ctrl+V
  • With the image selected, click Image Trace, then click Expand
  • Deselect the image
  • Using the Direct Selection Tool (pictured to the right), Click the outer border of the image
    • Don’t click and drag to select it, just click
  • Hit Delete on the keyboard TWICE
  • Use the Direct Selection Tool to delete any holes in the shape
    • You must hit Delete on the keyboard TWICE for everything you delete
  • Change back to the Selection Tool (pictured to the right)
  • Change the Fill to Nothing (pictured to the right)
  • Change the Stroke to 0.001 (pictured to the right)
  • Scale down to fit on the side of the box
  • If you want text:
    • Click on the Text Tool
    • Click in an open space away from the candle cube
      • It’s important that you just click, don’t click and drag
    • Type in what you wanted to type
    • The font type and size can be changed on the top of the page
    • Click on the Selection Tool
    • Click and drag your text into place
  • File>Save As
  • Name it something creative that you’ll remember
  • Navigate to your flash drive (Removable Disk or USB Drive)
  • Click Save
  • Click Save again
  • Click OK

At The Laser

  • Open Adobe Illustrator
  • File>Open
  • Navigate to your flash drive (Removable Disk or USB Drive)
  • Find your file
  • Click Open
  • Place a sheet of wood in the laser
  • Move the box parts to the open space on the wood
  • File>Print
  • Click “Setup” in the bottom left corner
  • Follow the instructions below for your laser

Epilog Helix

  • Select the printer (Epilog Engraver (Right or Left)) from the list on the top (you may have to scroll to the left)
  • Click Preferences
  • Select Auto Focus
  • Select Vector under the Job Type
  • Enter the Vector settings
    • Speed: 33
    • Power: 100
    • Frequency: 500
  • Make the piece size 24 in x 18 in
  • Click OK>Print>Print

Stay within an arm’s length of the laser while it’s running.

If something goes wrong, press stop.

Epilog Fusion M2

  • Select the printer (Epilog Engraver WinX64 Fusion (Copy1)) from the list on the top (you may have to scroll to the left)
  • Click Preferences
  • Select Auto Focus
  • Select Vector Grid
  • Set the Thickness to 0.12 in
  • Select Vector under the Job Type
  • Enter the Vector settings
    • Speed: 14
    • Power: 100
    • Frequency: 10
  • Make the piece size 24 in x 18 in
  • Click OK>Print>Print

Stay within an arm’s length of the laser while it’s running.

If something goes wrong, press stop.
